Description:
Introduction to Technology Systems is
a one year course offered as an elective to all 9 - 12 grade students. Communication, Material Processes and
Manufacturing, Power/Energy, and Construction are the four technological
systems that are introduced in this course.
A variety of technology activities will be introduced which will allow
the student to function better in a technological society and to make
rational choices of study for their future careers. The technology of tomorrow will be as
rapidly changing as the computer industry seems today. The trend in business and industry is toward
solving problems with machines and advanced technology. Students will need these skills to compete
and function in the high-tech society.
This course can be taken for one full year or be taken for one
semester during one year and the other semester a different year. Materials fee will be collected. Some activities will include:
-Aerospace
technology, model planes or rockets
-Building
structures/woodworking projects, balsa crane
-Transportation: mousetrap racer, rubber band powered
airplane
-Welding
-Drafting
and computer aided drafting and design
-Computer
activities
-Digital
photography and Photoshop

Description:
Communication Technology is the
language of business and industry.
Students will explore and develop skills in graphics, technical
drawing, and telecommunications.
Activities include using 3-D software to draw objects, designing and
assembling vinyl graphics (decals, signs) developing drafting skills,
photography, video editing, and developing a project to be cut on a high tech
CNC machine. All skills learned will
be valuable to the student no matter what career path them may choose.

Description:
Students will study the design,
construction, service and repair of small gas engines. Lab activities include maintenance and
repair of small engines and equipment and designing, building, and racing CO2
cars. Students may be involved in the
design and construction of a high mileage vehicle for competition in the
spring. Basics of electronics will be
explored. Safety glasses required.
WOODS
AND METALS

Description:
Students will develop basic skills
designing and building projects using today's technology. You will learn how to work with woodworking
tools and equipment, setup and use welding equipment, CNC cutting technology,
and metalworking equipment, to complete projects of wood and metal. Skills developed here will greatly enhance
students’ employability and career options.

Students will use computer aided
design software to build a house plan while learning architectural planning
and design. Video editing, digital
photography, desktop publishing, architectural design, computer aided design, and sign designing and building will be

Description:
Students will study vehicle
maintenance / repair such as changing oil, fluids, brakes, and tires.
Electronics, and electronic devices will be explored by wiring and soldering

WOODS AND METALS

Description:
Students will experience advanced
activities in woodworking, machining metals and plastics as well as building
previously learned welding skills.
Students may design and mass produce a product for sale, time

Students will explore different areas
of construction. Construction of a

Description:
Students in this course form a video
services business. The students will record school events and produce DVDs
for a profit. Students get paid for
their work! They will develop
technical skills associated with using video editing equipment. Students will demonstrate knowledge of
technical terms and the processes involved in videography, script writing,
editing, dubbing, care of equipment, quality control and record keeping. Students will be graded on daily work, work
ethics, written assignments, job performance, attitude and technical skills
learned.
