Description:

 

This course emphasizes the connection of modern life to the development of cultural achievements through the ages.  The course begins with prehistoric man and shows his development from the Renaissance through scientific revolution, enlightenment, industrial revolution, emergence of democracy, and nationalism.

 

 

AMERICAN HISTORY (EXPLORATION TO 1877)

Description:

 

This course begins with the discovery and  exploration of America, but moves rapidly into the story of our development as a great nation and a world leader, and the ultimate test of our national character:  the Civil War and reconstruction.  Special emphasis is placed on Native American issues and civics.

 

 

U.S. HISTORY - 20TH CENTURY

Description:

 

This course is an in-depth study of American History from the Post Reconstruction Era to the present.  A direct correlation is drawn between problems during this time to the present.  Special emphasis is put on the Industrialization of Society, America's entrance on to the world stage, World War I, the 20’s, the Great Depression, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Social Revolutions of the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Description:

 

This course will deal with the history of psychology and its development and growth as a science.  It will deal with such areas as development and growth, abnormal behavior, adjustment, motivation, perception and various fundamental theories in this field, as they relate to human decision making.

 

 

SOCIOLOGY   “Social Problems”

Description:

 

Social Problems will explore the far reaching effects of group behavior on society, explain why society is the way it is while defining what a social problem is, determining major problems of our society and possible solutions to those problems.

 

 

WORLD AREA STUDIES    “Cultural Geography”

Description:

 

This course will emphasize and explore the cultural and social aspects of various geographic peoples and areas around the world.  Emphasis will be placed on cultural geography and its importance in the social world.  Map skills are a minor part of the course.

Description:

 

This is a semester course which will investigate and analyze current news events happening locally, nationally and around the world.  Special attention will be focused on current news issues.  The relationship to history and their impact on society will be studied.  Students will have access to weekly news magazines and newspapers which they will use as resources, and to special topical units put together by the instructor.
