School District of Prairie Farm
Pre – K Screening
The Prairie Farm School Administration will be responsible for designating the tasks of the Pre-Kindergarten Screening to appropriate staff members and volunteers, and over-seeing the screening process. The primary staff resources for the screening process will be the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers, aids, and the school psychologist. This process will include, but may not be limited to screening the child in the following areas:
Motor Skill Development
Visual and Auditory Development (As requested by Parents/Guardians)
Speech and Language Development
Socialization (Interaction with other students)
Parent interaction with the teachers and volunteers will be part of the screening procedure. We promote the parents to attend the screening process. Parents will be placed in a separate room until the staff has had the proper time needed to evaluate the students. The purpose of parent attendance is to obtain information relative to the child in the following areas:
Social/Emotional Behavior
Health History
Level of Independence/Dependence
General Information
The cut-off date for the Pre-Kindergarten students will be 4 years old before September 1st of that school year. The district will screen students that do not meet the age requirement as requested by the parents. The younger students will be tested on the same day as the Pre-Kindergarten students.
Determination of AM and PM Classes:
All students that have registered for the Pre-Kindergarten program before the third Friday of March will have their child’s name placed in a random drawing to determine who will attend the AM Pre-Kindergarten section and the students that will attend the PM Pre-Kindergarten section. The drawings will be conducted by the Prairie Farm School District Administration by the fourth Friday in March. Administration reserves the right to make changes in sections during the drawing, to accommodate bus routes. If a student registers after the third week in March, the student will be placed within the class that has the lower number of students enrolled. If the student distribution is equal the bus route proximity will be used to determine which class the student will be placed in. If a parent wishes to switch from one section to another they may contact one of the parents from the opposite section. If both parties agree to the change and the bus route is not altered (As determined by the administration.) the change will be permitted.
