| The Writer's Notebook assignment is one that students will work on throughout the school year. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students will write in their notebooks for the first five minutes of the class period. On Mondays and Wednesdays, students will respond to a prompt I provide them with on the SMART board. Most prompts will relate to what we are covering in class as it applies to student's lives outside of school. On Friday, students will do a five minute free write, on any topic they wish. I will also provide random writing prompts for them to respond to if they cannot come up with their own topic.
This assignment greatly increases writing fluency, as the writing in done in a non-threatening way. Students will not be graded on grammar, punctuation, spelling, or other mechanics. Rather, their grade will be based entirely on content, and the thought they put into their responses.
