Description:
This course will go along with the ag
work co-op program. It will include
instruction on careers in agriculture,
selecting a job, getting a job, keeping a job, cover letters, resumes,
job skills, basic economic principles, Ag. marketing, types of businesses,
budgeting, cash flow, etc. FFA
membership is strongly encouraged, and time will be spent on preparing
proficiency and FFA degree applications.
Successful completion of this class with a B or higher will earn
credit at WITC for Success Strategies I a one credit course needed in
certain WITC programs.

Description:
This course focuses on plants (parts, uses, growing,
propagation, identification, maintenance), flowers (parts, uses, growing, identification), crop production
(basic agronomy, emerging plant technologies, soil science, seed and plant
identification, tillage, harvesting and crops important at the local, state,
national and world levels) and basic landscaping (designing,
installation and maintenance). Outdoor work will be involved with this
class. Taking this course will
make you eligible for FFA membership.

Description:
This course is comprised of
introductory units in the following topics:
the definition of agriculture, agricultural careers, the FFA,

agriscience. Through this course you
will have the opportunity to join and participate in the FFA. Units on food science and biotechnology
will be included in this course.

Description:
In this course you will learn about
leadership skills, how to develop and improve their skills in communication,
goal setting and teamwork. Students
will plan, lead and evaluate leadership activities both individually and as a
group. Students will also prepare book
and movie reviews to analyze leadership traits of various characters or
people in history. Weekly reports and
skill development activities and daily participation will be the components
of the student's grade. We will review
texts such as Covey’s Habits of Highly
Effective Teens and Developing the
Leader Within series by John Maxwell.
FFA membership is strongly encouraged as this class will focus on
leadership projects for FFA and agriculture programs.

Description:
This course will build on skills
developed in Leadership Development I, with each student responsible for
researching, designing, implementing, and evaluating a community leadership
or service project. Students will be
responsible for weekly reports, leading group activities for Leadership I and
II students, and assisting with coordination of FFA projects and activities. Students in this class will be expected to
complete the FFA Leadership Proficiency award application, in addition to
other weekly assignments.
LARGE
ANIMAL PRODUCTION SCIENCE

Description:

This course will consist of the study
of the large animal industries, including the dairy, livestock (beef, sheep,
swine), poultry specialty meats and exotic animals. Careers in animal science will also be
covered. The following topics will be
covered for each species/industry - animals and their parts, breeds,
evaluation, management, nutrition, genetics, veterinary care and diseases,
housing and facility design and animal/product marketing. Retail cuts of meat and various dairy
products will be identified and evaluated, and eaten as a part of this
class. You will be eligible to join
FFA by taking this class.
NATURAL
RESOURCES MANAGEMENT I

Description:
This class is activity based! This course will include instruction on the
following topics: Introduction to Natural Resources, Land Use, Wetlands, Renewable vs. Nonrenewable
Resources, Wildlife (benefits,
hunting & trapping, identification, predators & nuisance species), Fresh- and Saltwater Fish, Waterfowl
Management, and Taxidermy. We will also being working in the school
forest. Through this course you will have the opportunity to join and
participate in the FFA. Taxidermy projects will require a fee.

management, water-use planning, careers), Forest Resources (products, management, enemies), Outdoor Recreation (programs,
safety), Energy, Mineral, and Metal
Resources (fossil fuels, alternative energy, metals & minerals,
careers), Conservation, Aqua culture,
and Advanced Taxidermy. You
will also being doing work in the school
forest. Through this course you will
have the opportunity to join and participate in the FFA. Taxidermy
projects will require a fee depending upon projects selected.

Description:
Your future may not include a career
in agriculture, but you are 100% likely to use agricultural products. As a consumer you need to understand where
your food comes from, and how it is processed from raw products into
consumable food is the focus of this class.
Principle of food processing and preservation, including meat, cereal
grain, dairy, fruit and vegetable processing, as well as sanitation and food
microbiology, will be taught in depth.
Lab activities may include processing meat identification and grading,
jerky and brat making, cheese making and identification, making root beer and
cider to name a few. This class will
also make you eligible for membership in the FFA.
Class
fee of $20.00 will be charged.
VETERINARY
AND SMALL ANIMAL SCIENCE

Description:
This course will focus on the small
and companion animal industry, including, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs,
fish, reptiles, birds and other pets or companion animals. Students will learn basic care for these
animals, as well as learning basic veterinary principles, including internal
and external anatomy and physiology; various body systems (circulatory,
respiratory, digestive, reproductive), handling and restraint, basic first
aid, physical examinations, common diseases and treatments, positional
terminology, injections and basic surgical procedures. In addition, careers, grooming, training,
and breeding information will be covered.
Possible field trips may include local vet clinics, animal shelters,
and the state veterinary diagnostic lab in Barron. By taking this class, you are eligible to
become a member of the FFA and participate in their chapter activities.
