Tell Me About. . .
PRAIRIE FARM SCHOOLS
Prairie Farm schools boast a small student to teacher ratio with highly qualified and committed staff, State testing scores and academic achievement rank very high, and a wide variety of academic and co-curricular experiences are available despite our small size. Because of our size and teacher qualifications, we can offer an experience tailored to each individual student’s needs. Our schools have an atmosphere of community which is derived from the amount of involvement we have, as well as our schools being the focal point of our area. The community support for our school district is likely unsurpassed in the state of Wisconsin.
Living in PrairieFarm
Our district is located in Southern Barron and Northern Dunn counties and covers approximately 85 square miles of rolling farmland and forest. The area offers many recreational opportunities including camping, fishing, bike riding,four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and horseback riding.
History of OurSchools
The first school in Barron County was established in 1862, when Knapp-Stout and Company designated one of its cabins in Prairie Farm for the purpose of providing instruction for the children of its employees. Throughout Prairie Farm’s history of change, citizens have been supportive of efforts to provide a high quality educational program. In 1876, Prairie Farm was the first school in the county to have uniforms and free textbooks. Various facility projects have occurred since those humble beginnings; the construction of a new high school was completed in 1959, a middle school wing, serving students in grades 6-8, was completed in 1992, and the most recent addition was in 1997 when the district completed construction of its elementary facility. All of these schools are housed “under one roof” which provides many advantages to our instructional programs. Each level has been able to maintain its uniqueness while enjoying the benefits of shared programs and facilities.
Our Schools Today
The Prairie Farm School District serves approximately 340 students in grades prekindergarten through twelfth; we have 37 professional staff and 21 support staff members that all have a deeply vested interest in our students and our community. Many of our classroom have SMARTBoards” which enhance our student’s education by allowing students and staff to visualize and modify data and information together in a classroom setting. In addition to the high-quality instruction our students receive in Math, Science, Language Arts and Socials Studies, our district also has exceptional programs in Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Band, Choir, Art, Spanish, Business, and Technology Education. We are also extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments in athletics and other co-curriculars such as pep band, FCCLA, Forensics, Quiz Bowl and FFA.
