Use or Possession of Weapons

 

The use or possession of any dangerous weapon shall be prohibited while on property owned, leased, rented or temporarily utilized by the district except as follows:

1. Weapons under the control of law enforcement personnel shall be permitted.

2. Weapons that are registered and handled in a legal manner for the purpose of

education may be authorized by the administration.

3. Weapons properly registered and handled during the community use of school

facilities may be permitted.

4. Archery equipment for physical education classes shall be permitted and must be used only under the supervision of the physical education teacher.

 

The Board defines a dangerous weapon as a knife, firearm, bow and arrow, trap, sling shot or any other device which might be employed to cause injury or damage.

Persons violating this policy or using a dangerous weapon in an area sufficiently

proximate to district properties such that a real or potential danger exists to persons on district property or to district property itself shall be reported to law enforcement officials. A student who violates this policy shall be disciplined in accordance with state and federal law and established procedures. Discipline may include suspension and/or expulsion from school.
