School District of Prairie Farm
Food Services Management
The school lunch program is an integral part of the total education program and as such shall be governed by the same principles and type of control as any other division of the school system.
The building administrator shall be the executive officer of the program in his or her school and shall have general direction of the conduct of its activities including the control of students using the cafeteria.
Food services shall include hot lunches through participation in the National School Lunch Program.
As required for participation in the National School Lunch Program, the school agrees to the following regulations:
That a "Type A" lunch be available for students.
That free or reduced price lunches be provided students who cannot afford to pay the price of the "Type A" lunch.
Students shall also be permitted to bring their lunches from home and to purchase beverages and incidental items.
The board recognized the value of a nutritious school lunch program, and believes that competitive food dales during regularly scheduled meal service could have a detrimental effect on the nutritional balance of student meals. Also, competitive food sales make it difficult for the school food service program to be financially sound and self-supporting.
Therefore, non-approved concessions sales will not be in operation from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the elementary, middle and high school.
Milk breaks at the elementary school will be optional, but available to all students.
Offer vs. Serve Lunch procedures
In grades K-12 the students will be offered all items on the menu with the option to decline 2 of 5 offerings. Minimum portions may be taken of menu items that are not the main entrée. Eating all food is not mandatory but waste is discouraged.
