Student Transportation Services: Rule
A safe and efficient school bus program calls for teamwork by pupils, parents, bus drivers, teachers, and administration.
The transportation rules have been developed to:
a). Encourage cooperation and communication between school personnel, students, parents, and bus drivers.
b). Define responsibilities of those individuals involved in the student transportation program; and
c). Protect the health and safety of student bus drivers
To provide both efficient and safe transportation the Prairie Farm School system has established the following rules and regulations:
Getting on and off the Bus
- All pupils should be ready and waiting when the bus arrives.
- Pupils should stay off of the road while waiting for pick up.
- Pupils shall behave themselves while waiting for the bus.
- Pupils shall wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before attempting to board the bus.
- Pupils shall not crowd and push while getting on and off the bus.
- School bus stops for loading and unloading should be reasonably spaced.
Riding on the Bus
- Pupils must refrain from loud talk, laughing and other noise which could cause a distraction for the bus driver and create a safety hazard.
- Pupils shall not tamper with the bus and/or bus equipment.
- Students who damage the bus in any way shall be held responsible and parents shall be liable for the repair costs incurred from acts of vandalism and carelessness.
- Pupils shall keep arms inside the bus when windows are open.
- All bus aisles shall be clear and free of student property-books and bags.
- Eating and drinking on the bus is prohibited.
- The bus driver is the in charge of all pupils on the bus and their behavior. The bus driver is the sole authority on the bus and is responsible to maintain student safety and order.
- The bus driver will enforce student discipline on the bus and shall complete a discipline report when appropriate. Students written up will be referred to the principal. A second offense will result the loss of student riding privileges for three days.
- If a pupil’s misbehavior is of a serious nature and dangerous, or the student continues to violate rider ship rules after having been disciplined in the past , the student shall lose his/her rights to ride the bus. Furthermore, inappropriate and dangerous behaviors may be referred to the School Board for Board evaluation and could result in the pupil losing his/her riding privileges and an undetermined amount of time.
Information shall be distributed to parents each year concerning bus ridership rules, bus routes and changes families need to know.
