School District of Prairie Farm

Crisis Communications Plans

The Board affirms that the safety of individuals is the first priority in any situation.

The Board recognizes its responsibility to provide facilities, equipment, and training

necessary to minimize the effects of emergency situations. An "emergency" is

defined as an unplanned event that can cause significant injury to students,

employees or the public. An emergency could cause deaths, close a school, disrupt

normal activities, and cause physical or environmental damage.

The Board directs the administration to develop school emergency plans which shall serve as an educational tool and serve as a guide for District personnel. The plan's purpose is to ensure that in the event of an emergency, the District's employees, facilities, and equipment are effectively coordinated and to maximize student, employee, and community safety.

The plan shall:

- provide District officials an overview of the District Crisis Communication Plan.

- facilitate assessment of hazards, potential threats, prevention opportunities, response capabilities, resources, and needs.

- facilitate integrated operations planning by response groups to help them adapt

and respond effectively to emergencies of an unusual nature.

- discover and deploy resources effectively.

- assign emergency responsibilities and authority among District staff.

- record information, decisions, and procedures developed during planning.

- provide a basis for training and coordination of personnel to function in an

  emergency situation.

- provide follow-up analysis in the event of an emergency thereby, ensuing

  improved effectiveness in the future.

The District Crisis Communication Plan shall be reviewed annually and appropriate

changes shall be made as necessary to reflect changing conditions.

Drills shall be held to implement such plans to allow for order and efficiency in the

event of a true emergency. These drills may or may not have student participation.
