723.8 Rule

Emergency School Closing Procedures

The following procedures shall be used in the event of snow, local or national disaster or other problem that calls for closing school or delaying the start of the school day.

A. Morning Procedures

The following procedures shall be used primarily in the case of heavy snow or

slippery roads:

1. When the weather conditions are bad, the Administration and the school bus transportation director shall check the roads in the area. If he/she is doubtful about road conditions, he/she shall consult with the Barron and Dunn County Sheriff’s Department or the Highway departments of Barron and Dunn County.

2. The District Administrator shall consider all facts on the storm including the weather forecast, visibility and road conditions and make a decision to close school before 6 a.m. All news outlets and staff shall be notified prior to 6:30 AM.

3. The District Administration shall call the radio stations listed in the Board’s emergency school closings policy and request that an announcement be aired. The head bus driver transportation director shall contact all bus drivers. The District Administrator shall contact all other staff members.

B. Early Dismissal Procedures

1. In the event of inclement weather, the District Administrator shall reach a

decision on closing schools early after consulting with the school bus

transportation director. In the event of some other emergency, the

administrative staff shall reach a decision.

2. The District Administrator shall call the radio and television stations listed in the Board’s emergency school closings policy, inform them of the time the schools will be closed and request that an announcement be aired. The transportation director/head bus driver shall contact all bus drivers.

3. School bus garage personnel shall contact bus drivers by telephone and radio

to inform them of the time the schools will be closed.

C. Late Start Procedures

The District Administrator may delay the start of school in the event of snow, local

or national disaster or other problem that calls for delaying the start of the school

day.
