Tornado Emergency Procedures

The administration of each school building shall develop a plan to quickly move all people in the building to the safest available parts of the building in accordance with the following guidelines:

1. Spaces with the shortest roof space shall be used first. Large rooms such as

gymnasiums and multi-purpose rooms shall never be used as shelter.

2. Rooms away from outside walls should be used first.

3. Window and door areas should be avoided while taking shelter.

4. The plan should enable all persons to be moved to comparative shelter in two (2) minutes or less.

5. All exit routes shall be posted in the room by the door indicating where students should report for safety.

6. Students shall remain in the safety areas until an all clear is sounded by the administration and/or designee.
