Procedures for Handling Accidents
All students will have an updated emergency card on file. The card will contain written permission from parents and/or guardians to allow the school to secure medical attention for their child in cases of emergencies when parents cannot be contacted. The cards are kept in the principal’s office.
The following procedures shall be adhered to in case of accident or illness where applicable:
- In the case first aid is necessary; it should be rendered by a designated person who has experience in first aid. The designated list shall be updated yearly. First aid stations will be located in the school offices.
- Parents and or/guardians shall be notified as soon a possible when a severe illness or accident occurs. Parents will be informed as to the specifics of the particular incident and asked for instructions as to how the school should proceed.
- When necessary, contact medical officials.
- Whenever possible, follow instructions indicated by the student’s parents and/or guardian.
- The District office shall be notified as soon as possible.
- When the parents cannot be located, or if there is any question about the student’s condition, the student should be taken to the doctor immediately.
- If a student should be taken home because of a mild illness, the parents/guardians should be contacted to arrange transportation for their student. If the parents/guardians cannot be located, the child shall be kept in the sick room at school. The child shall never be sent home without parental approval.
- School administration and/or designee are responsible carry out this procedure.
