Teacher Assistant

Qualifications

Technical School degree and/or associate’s degree in human services field or equivalent life experiences.  Willing to attend school and/or training and staff development programs as required upgrading skills. The individual must be willing to increase knowledge of basic technology and use technology skills when the situation demands it.

Reports to:

District Administrator and/or School Principal.

Primary goal of  the Teacher Assistant

The goal of the teacher assistant is to conduct duties as required by administration, under the primary direction of the individual who the teacher assistant is supporting at the time, including:

• Classroom teacher
• Director of the Instructional Media Center
• School Secretaries
• Director of Special Education

Position  Requirements and Responsibilities

1. Specific Duties

1. Assist classroom teachers in working with students who need one-to-one instructional support.
2. Assist and support the District in areas and activities such as the Instructional Media Center, school food services program, Distance Education and areas where needed.
3. Work with basic record keeping as required, keep and maintain accurate records. 

2. Student/Staff Relations

1. The teaching assistant must have the ability to relate to all ages of students, Pre K-12.
2. Have the ability to manage small groups of students.
3. The teaching assistant must get along with staff and students.
4. Take the initiative to give suggestions, follow through on tasks to their completion and help where needed.
5. Be willing to work with students that have learning, behavior or social difficulties.
6. Be flexible to time changes and adaptable to the needs of students. Care about children and be a positive role model in children’s lives.
7. Understand and work within all polices of the School District of Prairie Farm.
