Qualifications |
Licensed Teacher with at least three years of classroom experience, or equivalent of both. This person should be flexible and possess strong organizational skills and relate very well with students at all grade levels, staff and parents alike. This individual must be cooperative, communicative who care about children. Must understand best practices Gifted and Talented models. |

District Administrator and/or School Principal. |

Primary goal of the District Gifted and Talented Coordinator |
To identify children who display characteristics of gifted and talented abilities and to assist the children, staff and parents with individualized education program for each child. The Gifted and Talented Coordinator is expected to:
- Be an advocate for the gifted and talented child.
- Be flexible.
- Follow the initiative to give suggestions,
- Follow through on tasks to their completion, and help where needed.
- Care about children and be a positive role model in their lives.

Position Requirements and Responsibilities |
|
1. Student Management
|
- Screen and identify gifted and talented students.
- Conduct a needs assessment of those students who have been identified as gifted and talented.
- Maintain I.E. P.’s for all identified students.
- Work with students who require individual service (mentorship, independent study, enrichment).
- Provide for the affective development of gifted and talented students.
- The coordinator must have the ability to work with small groups of students as well as classroom groups.

2. Instructional Practices |
1. Coordinate enrichment activities and organize student participation in events such as Odyssey of the Mind and Quiz Bowl.
2. Coordinate and provide for staff development opportunities designed to help promote the teaching of thinking skills in regular education classrooms.

3. Program Management |
1. Serve as an advisor to G/T parent group.
2. Coordinate and chair Gifted and Talented Committee.
3. Manage public relations for the program.
4. Report program status to the District Administrator as needed.
5. Evaluate program on an annual basis.
6. Consult with staff on a regular basis concerning those students identified as gifted and talented and student achievement status.
7. Develop a program reporting system to inform and update stakeholder groups.
8. Use school personnel as resources:
