Reports to:

District Administrator. This position is a part of the CESA Shared Services program, and supervision of this position is also the responsibility of the Director of Special Education who is a direct employee of CESA 11.

Primary goal of  the School Psychologist

The School Psychologist shall review EEN referrals and where relevant administer the necessary diagnostic tests for determination of a student’s EEN status and make recommendations to the IEP team. 

Position  Requirements and Responsibilities

1. General

 

 

 

  1. Provide a wide range of psychological services to special education and non-special education youth and students as determined by School District officials and the Director of Special Education.
  2. Counsel students, parents, and teachers regarding issues related to special education students.
  3. Always promote the least restrictive environment.
  4. Provide assistance in developing programs for non-handicapped students when appropriate.
  5. Serve as an educational consultant for principals, teachers, and other members of the school staff and parents or guardians.
  6. Keep current, concise records and reports and monitor the special education files. Direct the special education secretary as needed to maintain and upgrade EEN records as needed.
  7. Assist teachers in the development and monitoring of individual behavior management programs.

2. Pupil Evaluation

1.       1. Diagnose student problems through psycho-educational evaluations and interpretations of the evaluations made available to appropriate personnel.

2.       Write psycho-educational reports and provide recommendations regarding appropriate techniques and approaches to meet the student’s academic, social and emotional needs.

3.       Work with teachers in pre-referral strategies and offer suggestions and ideas to prevent, when appropriate, unnecessary special education referrals.

4.        Reevaluate special education students as necessary to update information and to recommend adjustments in their educational programs as necessary. 

3. IEP Team membership

1.       Serve as chairperson of the IEP team when assigned by the Director of Special Education.

2.       Serve as diagnostician and member of the IEP team in determining eligibility for special education programs.

4.  General

Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or school administration.
