Policies Relating to Instructional Staff
A) General Requirements for Employment
1) Qualifications
a) The policy of the Board shall be to hire the best qualified teachers available. Staff should be willing to continue their education while teaching through in-service courses and summer school where possible. Successful teaching experience will be considered a most important qualification.
2) Certification
a) Secondary and elementary teachers shall have a minimum of bachelor's degree and a license to teach in Wisconsin.
b) All instructional personnel are expected to keep themselves informed of essential instructional improvements through professional study, discussion, or school visitation.
3) Substitute Teachers
Substitute teachers may be employed by the School District of Prairie Farm for short or long-term periods of time in the absence of the regular teacher. The District Administration shall maintain a list of eligible substitute teachers. Rates of compensation for substitute teachers shall be determined by the Board of Education. Substitute teachers shall meet minimum state requirements for licensure as a substitute teacher.
Long term substitute teachers shall be paid regular substitute pay for the first ten (10) consecutive days in a given position. Beginning on the eleventh (11th) consecutive day in the same classroom he/she will be paid at the rate equal to the BA Base salary divided by the number of teacher contract days agreed to by the Board of the Northwest United Educators (NUE). Substitutes will not be entitled to any fringe benefits other than those regulated by state or federal law.
4) Contracts
All contracts for instructional personnel employed by the Board, except substitutes, shall be in writing and signed by the designated members of the Board. All contracts shall be for a period of one year or the remainder or the year.

5) Transfers: as per Master Agreement
Teachers are subject to transfer from position to position at the discretion of the District Administrator. The preference of the teacher shall be considered in all cases but the decision of the District Administrator will be final. Qualified teachers will be notified of vacancies that are regarded as promotions in order that they may apply for such position.
6) Leave of Absence: as per Master Agreement
Emergency Leave - to the discretion of the District Administrator.
7) Resignation
A written notice of resignation shall be filed with the District Administrator at least 30 days prior to the effective date of resignation. Release from contract shall be at the discretion of the Board. Under extenuating circumstances the District Administrator may waive such notice.
8) Payment of Salary
The schedule of pay days for employees calls for 26 pay rolls on alternate Fridays throughout the year. Should the pay day fall on a holiday, the checks will be issued on the nearest business day that the district office is open.
9) Salary Schedule: as per Master Agreement
a) Employees will be classified for salary schedule purposes at the beginning of each school year. At that time they will be placed on the schedule at levels warranted by their experiences, training and position. Contracts will be written on the basis of each teacher's position on the salary schedule at contract time. Teachers may advance on the schedule if summer school attendance will qualify them for a higher standing, by submitting evidence of this training to the District Administrator's office as per contract.
b) It will be the policy of the Board to review the salary schedule annually.
