Lockers are considered property of the Prairie Farm School District and student vehicles parked on school premises are also considered to be under the jurisdiction of the Prairie Farm School District. Locker and vehicle inspections may be conducted by school administrators or their designees for any reason anytime, without student consent and without a search warrant.

Rationale

School authorities have an interest in the preservation of school property and in the maintenance and preservation of the property, health and safety of others, and in the maintenance of order for all those in the schools of the District.

In order to maintain order and discipline in the schools and to protect the safety and welfare of students and school district personnel, school authorities may search student lockers and vehicles under the circumstances outlined in the guidelines and may seize any illegal, unauthorized or contraband materials discovered in the search. For purposes of this policy, "school authorities" shall be defined as building administrators or their designees.

As used in this policy, the term "unauthorized material" means any item dangerous to the health or safety of students or school personnel, or disruptive of any lawful function, mission or process of the school, or any item described as "unauthorized" in school rules available beforehand to the student.
