Bus Conduct Report
The written REPORT OF BUS CONDUCT has been developed to provide a method of communicating between the drivers, school, and parents of student misbehavior. It is expected that drivers will address minor misbehavior in an informal manner prior to using the written report. Some of the strategies a driver may use are:
1. Warn the student
2. Assign a seat
3. Contact the parent
Repeated or serious misbehavior will involve the writing of a REPORT OF BUS CONDUCT that will be delivered to principal by the driver. The report will indicate student action(s), description of the behavior, number of offenses and the type of parent contact made.
Upon receiving the report from the driver the PreK-12 Principal shall investigate the situation to determine the severity of the situation. The PreK-12 Principal is charged with making a decision as to the severity of discipline for the offense. When appropriate the principal shall schedule a conference with the driver, student, and parent/guardian. In all cases the principal will provide a at least a copy of the REPORT OF BUS CONDUCT to the parent/guardian indicating the action taken as well as a disciplinary letter when necessary.
Suspension of Bus Riding Privileges
The following suspension of bus riding privileges guidelines and procedures shall be adhered to:
1. The bus driver shall have the authority to recommend a student be suspended from riding the bus if, in the driver’s opinion, the conduct of the student interferes with the authority vested in the driver, interferes with safe driving habits or creates a safety hazard to any of the passengers.
2. A student may be suspended from riding the bus for one (1) to five (5) days for a first offense.
a. The driver shall notify the building principal and the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) before the student is denied transportation. The driver shall present written notification of the recommended suspension to the building principal in person.
b. The building principal shall notify the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) in writing and arrange for a conference between the student, bus driver and building principal. The student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) may be required to attend this conference.
3. A Student may be suspended from riding the bus for a period of one (1) to five (5) days for a second offense.
a. The procedures outlined in point (2) above shall be followed.
b. A conference with all parties, including the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), shall be required. If possible, the conference shall be held before the student returns to the bus.
4. A student may be suspended from riding the bus for an indefinite period of time for a third offense. Such period of time shall be determined at a conference with all parties, including the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) and the district administrator. Long term removal is an extremely serious step, which should not be undertaken hastily or for less than compelling reasons. The district administrator may recommend to the Board the expulsion of the student from bus privileges for the remainder of the year.
5. The privilege of riding on a bus to and from athletic contests or any other extracurricular activities may be revoked for violation of bus rider regulations while on these trips.
6. Suspension of bus riding privileges may be extended into the following year.
