Student Field Trips and Community Service
The Board believes that properly timed, planned and conducted field trips and community service activities related to the curriculum can be of great educational value to students. Therefore, the Board shall allow students to participate in field trips to nearby points of interest and participate in community service activities which enhance the classroom curriculum. The Board shall provide school bus transportation whenever appropriate and possible.
Staff members planning a field trip or community service activity shall determine the educational objectives of the proposed trip and submit an application form to the building principal. The Pre-K12 principal may approve field trips and community service activities within the boundaries of the school district. Any field trip or community service activity outside the boundaries of the school district or extending overnight musthave the approval of the pre-K principal and District Administrator. Field trips and community service activities outside of the state that require an overnight stay must have the approval of the Board. This does not include eastern Minnesota because of its geographic proximity.
Appropriate classroom instruction shall precede and follow each field trip and
community service activity.
Each student in grades pre- kindergarten through eight (8) participating in a field trip or community service activity and each student in grades nine (9) through twelve (12) participating in a field trip or community service activity outside the school district must have written approval of his/her parent/guardian.
Specific field trip and community service activity guidelines shall be established and updated as necessary.
