Grade Point Averages - Valedictorian/Salutatorian Selection and Honor Cords
To be kept in file of: Principal, School Counselor, District Administrator
1. A Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) will be kept from the end of freshman year and updated each semester.
2. A cumulative Class Rank will be kept in the Guidance Office for each class.
3. Grade Points will be determined as follows: *Effective 08/01/1997
A 4.0 C+ 2.33 D+ 1.33
A- 3.66 C 2.0 D 1.0
B+ 3.33 C- 1.67 D- .67
B 3.0 F or I .0
B- 2.66
4. GPA will be determined by dividing "attempted credits" into grade points.
Example: 18 grade points divided by 6 attempted credits = 3.00 GPA.
5. Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be selected upon the termination of Quarter 4 of the student’s senior year. To be eligible for this designation, students must be in continuous attendance at Prairie Farm High School for 5 consecutive semesters. A request for a waiver for continuous attendance due to educational programs or personal circumstances must be submitted in writing and may be granted with administrative approval.
6. Final class rank will be determined upon completion of senior year with a list of final rank being placed in class folders.
7. Student needs to obtain a 3.0 GPA to be awarded an Honor Cord. GPA for Honor Cords will be determined at end of senior year.
- Gold Cords: 3.66-4.00
- Silver Cords: 3.00-3.65
8. Grades received by students for courses taken at a Wisconsin technical college or university for dual credit will not be included in determining the student’s GPA.
