School District of Prairie Farm

Remedial Reading Policy

The School District of Prairie Farm recognizes reading as the most used of all the subject areas. Everything we do requires reading in one form or another. It is our goal to develop our reading curriculum so that we meet the needs of all students. Toward that end, the Prairie Farm School District will:

A) Use teacher observations and Tier II testing to identify students in need of remedial reading help.

B) Remediate or provide compensatory programs for students with reading difficulties.

C) Evaluate District reading programs and develop recommendations for program improvement.

D) Formulate programs and/or strategies for preventing reading problems.

E) Expand and strengthen the total K-12 reading and remedial reading program- including, but not limited to, resource materials, textbooks, library and media materials.

F) Conduct an annual assessment of the K-12 reading and remedial reading program.

It is crucial to the success of our students that proper reading skills are taught efficiently in the early educational years. Future growth and learning is dependent on detecting and correcting weaknesses in a child’s reading skills.

The Prairie Farm School District will provide a remedial program to support students who require additional assistance in learning to read. The program will build upon knowledge the children have previously acquired and work to fulfill deficiencies that are not completely met in the regular reading program.
