The School District of Prairie Farm

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Education

The Prairie Farm School District recognizes that chemical abuse and drug dependency present significant health and social problems for its citizens, in particular, the youth of America. The use of mood altering chemicals, including alcohol and other drugs, can result in problems that are psychological, emotional, physical, social, and economic related. It is recognized that a sound educational program is a deterrent to these problems. It is further recognized that chemical dependency is treatable.

Health problems of youth are primarily the responsibility of the home. However, communities and schools share in that responsibility as problems associated with the use of chemicals, including alcohol and other drugs as well as abuse of prescription drugs, often interfere with the academic, personal, and social development of students.

The School District of Prairie Farm will cooperate with all segments of the community, including parents, guardians, law enforcement and social services, to assist students and families who are affected by their own or someone else’s use of illegal drugs, prescription drug abuse and illegal consumption of alcohol. This shall be accomplished through the use of relevant standards-based curriculum materials as well as making appropriate referrals to social services and law enforcement agencies. It is a priority of the District to help families in identifying where they may receive assistance with AODA issues as well as address treatment concerns.
