School District Instructional Goals

 

The School District of Prairie Farm recognizes its responsibility to educate all of the children in the District, regardless of their abilities, race, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin or creed. The District believes that all citizens and local institutions, working with the District have responsibility to educate its children.

 

The mission statement is very clear:

 

The Prairie Farm School District in partnership with family and community provides educational experiences which foster academic excellence, lifelong learning, and citizenship.

 

  1. All students are capable of high achievement when they work to the best of their ability and take responsibility for their own learning.

 

    • The District assumes its responsibility in the education of students when it possesses the primary resources to do so. This includes using the human and fiscal resources necessary in order to accomplish its mission.

 

    •  The District believes students should be taught to their maximum intellectual ability and learn to critically think about and examine issues that impact their lives and others on a local, state, national, and international level. 

 

 

  1. All students learn differently, therefore the school district provides best practice curriculum and instruction by highly qualified teachers. The District shall provide a world-class education with the best comprehensive curriculum a small school system can offer. The instruction shall include:

 

·        Basic skills, including the ability to read, write, spell, perform basic arithmetical calculations, and to learn by reading, listening and to communicate through writing and speaking.

 

·        Analytical skills, including the ability to think critically and rationally, solve problems, use various learning methods, gather and analyze information, make critical and independent judgments and argue persuasively.

·        A basic body of knowledge that includes information and concepts in agriculture, consumer education, fine arts, literature, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, and technical education.  

 

 

·        The skills and attitudes that will further lifelong intellectual activity and learning. This includes the ability to use computer and other forms of technology that will help students to be more informed global citizens.

 

·        An understanding of the range and nature of available occupations and the required skills and abilities.

 

·        Preparation to compete for entry level jobs not requiring post-secondary school education.

 

·        Preparation to enter job-specific vocational and apprentice training programs.

 

 

·        The development and understanding the value of positive work attitudes and habits.

 

·        Preparation of students in learning how to safely operate motor vehicles in order to provide them with the mobility requirements they will need to have in the future.

 

·        An appreciation of artistic and creative expression and the capacity for self-expression.

 

·        An understanding of the basic workings of all levels of government, including the duties and responsibilities of citizenship.

 

·        A commitment to the basic values of our government, including the proper reverence and respect for the history and meaning of the American flag, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the constitution and laws of the State of Wisconsin.

 

·        The skills to participate in political processes.  

 

·        Knowledge of state, national, and world history.

 

·        Knowledge of the role and the importance of biological and physical resources.

 

·        Knowledge of the human body and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. All students have a stake in the School District and have a right to be contributing members of the school district.

 

·        Students shall be taught an understanding of the function of organizations in society. 

 

·        Students shall be taught about the importance of moral decisions and the individual’s responsibility as a private and public person.

 

  1. The District promotes a positive school climate which includes students and staff modeling good character in a safe and orderly environment.

 

·        The District, in conjunction with community institutions and families, assumes a shared responsibility for the physical development, social-emotional development, and ethical development of its students. 

 

·        An appreciation and understanding of different value systems and cultures.

 

·        Students shall acquire the skills needed to cope with social changes.

 

·        Students will learn how to construct personal ethics and goals.

 

·        Students shall acquire knowledge about the use of alcohol and controlled substances and the negative and dangerous consequences as a result of illegal use of them.

 

  1. Community and school relationships foster and support active participation in day-to-day activities as well as extra-curricular and athletic programs.

 

  1. A well maintained and cared for facility is necessary.
