Athletic Director

Qualifications

Wisconsin Teaching license. Previous coaching experience. Ability to organize and manage events, schedule athletic contests, and evaluate coaching personnel.

Reports to:

District Administrator

Primary goal of  the Athletic Director 

The primary goal of the Athletic Director is to organize and manage the District’s athletic programs. The individual must be a self starter and very organized. The individual must be comfortable working with parent and athletic groups, staff, and students. The Athletic Director must have the ability to work directly with individual parents and families. 

 

           Position  Requirements and Responsibilities

1. Scheduling Responsibilities

 

 

 

  1. Schedule all conference and non-conference contests for the following sports:
  • Volleyball: Varsity, J.V. and middle school.
  • Football: Varsity, J.V. and middle school.
  • Wrestling: Varsity - Cooperative sport - work with host school in scheduling and middle school, elementary coach works with A.D. to ensure  scheduling is completed.
  • Boy’s and Girl’s basketball: Varsity, J.V. and middle school.
  • Baseball: Varsity
  • Track: Varsity
  1. As required, schedule game officials for all home events.
  2. Schedule game workers for all home events; advise bookkeeper and administration.
  3. When appropriate, schedule and manage tournaments at Prairie Farm High School.

2. Program Management Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.          Attend all required WIAA and conference athletic meetings and other meetings as directed by the District Administration.

2.          Review and update athletic handbook annually. 

3.          Oversee sport program development and insure quality control for the individual programs. Seek uniformity with program development and improvement.

4.          Conduct evaluations on all coaches, recommend improvement areas as well as commendations.

5.          On an annual basis update District Web site on all information that concerns the athletic program.

6.          Conduct regular coaches’ meetings.

7.          Advise coaching staff about mandatory and required meetings.

8.          Update coaches on policy changes.

9.          Report to School Board monthly concerning athletic events and programs.

10.      The athletic director shall make recommendations as to program improvement and changes.

11.      Recommend to the Board of Education the hiring and dismissal of coaches.

12.      Send and receive rosters for games in which Prairie Farm athletes are competing in.

13.      Attend athletic booster meetings on a regular basis, work with the athlete booster in goal formulation and project prioritization.

3. Inventory and Budgeting

1.       The athletic director shall require equipment inventories on a seasonable basis from all head coaches.

2.       The athletic director is responsible for program orders and consulting with the head coaches concerning budget issues.

3.       It is the responsibility of the athletic director to approve requisitions.

4.       A replacement uniform rotation purchase program is the responsibility of the athletic director.

5.       Schedule for equipment replacement.

4. Program Communication

  1. The athletic director shall conduct athletic code meetings as necessary.
  2. The athletic director will communicate with students and parents about their eligibility status. This shall be done verbally and in writing. Students and parents shall be advised in a timely manner as to the status of eligibility.
  3. The athletic director shall monitor student physicals, parental release forms, student insurance and eligibility.

 

5. Athletic Banquet

  1. Schedule date with administration.
  2. Inform coaches and general public.
  3. Arrange program with coaches.
  4. When appropriate, secure speaker for program.
  5. Arrange meal with Head Cook in consult with administration.
  6. Consult with bookkeeper relative to finances.
  7. Contact student groups for assistance with set up.
  8. Contact community groups with set up.
