School Board Policy Development
Any school board member, district elector or district staff member may make a written suggestion for policy revisions of new policies. Such written proposals shall be presented to the superintendent for preliminary research and presentation to the Board of Education. After initial discussion the policy proposal will be referred to the Board Policy Committee for development. Proposals should accurately reflect state and federal statutes and should be promptly updated as those statutes and/or conditions change.
Policy revisions, deletions or proposals shall be presented to at least two school board meetings prior to final disposition.
The first draft shall be presented at a school board meeting and responses and suggestions may be made at that time. Revisions of the first draft will be posted at the district office prior to the second reading to elicit suggestions from persons likely to be affected by the proposal.
The amended proposal shall be presented to the school board for a second reading for final action by the school board. All policies shall bear the date of approval.
The school board, voting in legal session, has the sole right to adopt, alter or delete district policy pursuant to established board procedures.
Policies shall serve to indicate the manner in which the school board or those delegated by the school board shall at in situations that may or may not be explicitly established by statute.
